It is with great sadness that we have to inform members and the wider hospital community of the death of Dr Roy Lamb.

Dr Lamb was  intimately associated with the League of Friends for over fifty seven years, mainly as a Trustee, but additionally as President in later years. During that time he had a major hand in all the significant developments at the hospital,  in terms of buildings, specialist equipment, and new services such as ultrasound. This was in addition to the direct clinical work he undertook at the hospitals. During the 1960s he was instrumental in the fund-raising and building of a new operating theatre, and later in the creation of Jubilee and Cashes Green Wards.

More recently he played a major role in the successful campaign to save Stroud Maternity Hospital from closure. His most recent initiative was to obtain the consent of HRH The Princess Royal as Patron of Stroud Hospitals League of Friends.

Dr Lamb also had an incredible store of knowledge of the history of the hospital, and great wisdom. He will be much missed by all who knew him.
