Introduction

Stroud Hospitals League of Friends is a long established, well resourced and successful charity which supports Stroud Hospital, Stroud Maternity Hospital, and a number of related local health centres and health related community projects. The League enhances standard NHS provision through funding equipment and clinical services. Over the last 20 years alone the League has spent £3.5 million on medical equipment and refurbishments, much of which has contributed to the local hospital health provision being ‘state-of-the-art’. In 2018 the League spent a record £573,000, principally on the upgrading of one of the wards to higher than normal standards, and upon specialist endoscopy equipment.  Recently, the League of Friends successfully extended its remit to support innovative health provision in the community, for example Respite Care, pre-and post-natal yoga and singing, and community mental health projects.

The Role

We are looking for up to three new Trustees to join our existing board of seven to help shape our strategy, make decisions about our grant-making, and to monitor our financial resources to enable the charity to prosper and continue its significant impact for many more years, in line with its charitable objectives and as required by law. Trustees bring a range of skills and experience which ensure that this role can be carried out effectively.

It may be that you have never considered a role like this before, but it is your own experience which will enable you to play an active role. Knowledge of health and social care would be beneficial, as would PR, media or marketing, the law and investment management, but this is not essential as we are seeking individuals who have an enthusiasm to make a positive contribution to the Stroud Hospitals and to the health and wellbeing of the communities they serve.

The role is voluntary and the commitment is to attend approximately eight meetings a year, held in the evenings, generally at Stroud Hospital. Induction to the role will be given.

Duration of term: Three years with the option to stay on the Board of Trustees for a further three years.
Board composition: 10 trustees.
Remuneration: Reasonable out of pocket expenses if they were to occur.

To apply, please send us your CV and a short covering letter as to why you would like the role (no more than one side A4) by 5 pm on 31st March.
Please send to info@stroudleagueoffriends.org

We welcome your interest, but if you are unsure if you qualify for one of the roles, please contact Roma Walker at romawalker@btinternet.com for an informal discussion.
